Deceptively simple, yet capable of delivering both a rush of genius and a humbling moment of being completely, utterly stuck. And it seems like today, Thursday, August 7, 2025, is one of those days for many of us.
You're staring at the grid. You see a few potential links, but nothing solid. You've made three mistakes, and the pressure is on. Don't worry, you're not alone, and you've come to the right place. We're not just going to give you the answers outright (unless you want them!). We're here to provide the perfect nudge—a hint, a clue, a gentle push in the right direction to help you conquer the grid yourself.
Let's break down today's puzzle together.
A Quick Refresher: How to Play Connections
For anyone new to the game or needing a quick reminder, the goal of Connections is to identify four groups of four words that share a common theme or category. You're presented with a 4x4 grid of 16 words.
- Select four words you believe are connected.
- Hit the "Submit" button.
- If you're right, the category is revealed, and the words are removed from the board.
- If you're wrong, it counts as a mistake. You only get four mistakes before the game is over.
The categories are color-coded by difficulty: Yellow is the most straightforward, followed by Green, Blue, and the notoriously tricky Purple category, which often involves puns, wordplay, or other creative links.
General Hints for Today's Connections (August 7, 2025)
Before we dive into specific categories, here's the overall vibe for today's puzzle:
The puzzle editor has laid some clever traps today. There's a major red herring revolving around a very common category. If you see a group of five or six words that seem to fit together, take a step back and ask yourself if there's a more specific connection for some of them. Trust your gut, but be prepared to pivot!
Category Hints for August 7, 2025
Ready for a little more help? Here are hints for each of today's categories, from easiest to most difficult. Read them one at a time!
Yellow Category Hint (Easiest)
This category involves a simple, common action. You might do this with a piece of paper, a blanket, or even in a game of poker.
Green Category Hint (A Little Trickier)
Are you a musician? If you've ever picked up a stringed instrument, particularly one popular in rock and folk music, this category should be music to your ears.
Blue Category Hint (Tough Stuff)
This group is a celebration of famous non-humans from film and television. Think metal, circuits, and a lot of personality.
Purple Category Hint (The Brain Buster)
This is the classic Connections curveball. The words in this group don't have a direct relationship with each other. Instead, they can all be preceded by the same word to form common phrases or compound words.

How The Words Connected: A Deeper Dive
Solving the puzzle is one thing, but understanding the logic behind it is where the real satisfaction lies. Let's break down the clever construction of today's game.
Yellow: THINGS YOU FOLD
The words here were CHAIR, HANDS, LAUNDRY, NAPKIN. This was a fairly straightforward category based on a common verb. You fold a folding chair, you fold your hands in prayer or contemplation, you fold laundry, and you fold a napkin. The word "HANDS" might have briefly thrown you off, trying to group it with other body parts, which was the puzzle's main trap.
Green: PARTS OF A GUITAR
The words were BODY, BRIDGE, HEAD, NECK. This is what made today's puzzle so tricky. Three of these words—BODY, HEAD, and NECK—are also parts of the human body. Combined with HANDS from the yellow category, it was incredibly tempting to try and form a "BODY PARTS" group. The key was realizing that BRIDGE didn't fit that theme, and that all four words were essential components of a guitar (the headstock, neck, body, and bridge).
Blue: FAMOUS ROBOTS
The words were BENDER, OPTIMUS, R2-D2, WALL-E. A fun pop culture test! If you're a fan of sci-fi, this might have been one of the first groups you spotted. We have Bender from Futurama, Optimus Prime from Transformers, R2-D2 from Star Wars, and Wall-E from the eponymous Pixar film. No major tricks here, just a test of your robotic knowledge.
Purple: WORDS THAT FOLLOW "ROCK"
The words were BOTTOM, CANDY, GARDEN, PAPER. This is the category that makes you say "Aha!" or "Oh, come on!". The words themselves have very little in common. You can't really link candy and gardens, or paper and rock bottom. The secret, as is often the case with Purple, was word association. All four words can follow the word "ROCK" to create new meanings:
- Rock Bottom
- Rock Candy
- Rock Garden
- Rock Paper (as in Rock, Paper, Scissors)
The inclusion of PAPER was particularly clever, as it could have also been a misdirect for the "THINGS YOU FOLD" category.
