National Historic Site of the United States
The Clara Barton National Historic Site, which includes the Clara Barton House, was established in 1974 to interpret the life of Clara Barton (1821โ1912), an American pioneer teacher, nurse, and humanitarian who was the founder of the American Red Cross. The site is located 2 miles (3.2ย km) northwest of Washington, D.C., in Glen Echo, Maryland.
Clara Barton dedicated her life and energies to help others in times of need - both home and abroad, in peacetime as well as during military emergencies. Glen Echo was her home the last 15 years of her life, and the structure illustrates her dedication and concern for those less fortunate than herself.

The unfurnished first floor of the Clara Barton National Historic Site is open for public visitation Fridays and Saturdays by guided tours at 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:00pm, and 4:00 pm. Closed Sun. Dec. 25 & Sun. Jan. 1
