Grand Portage National Monument is a United States National Monument located on the north shore of Lake Superior in northeastern Minnesota that preserves a vital center of fur trade activity and Anishinaabeg Ojibwe heritage. The area became one of the British Empire's four main fur trading centers in North America, along with Fort Niagara, Fort Detroit, and Michilimackinac.

Trails & Grounds

The Anishinaabe Oodena (Ojibwe Village), the grounds outside of the palisade, and the Mount Rose and Grand Portage trails are open daily year-round.

Heritage Center

The Heritage Center and Trails are open year-round. The Historic Depot opens for the season Memorial Day weekend in May through Columbus Day in mid-October. Winter Hours start 10/14/2025: 9 am - 4:30 pm. Beginning 10/26/2025: closed Sundays.

Historic Depot

About 3/4 mile on Mile Creek Road, look for the large wooden entrance sign. Turn left up the short hill into the Heritage Center parking lot.
