Railroad museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania
Steamtown National Historic Site (NHS) is a railroad museum and heritage railroad located on 62.48 acres (25.3ย ha) in downtown Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the site of the former Scranton yards of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad (DL&W). The museum is built around a working turntable and a roundhouse that are largely replications of the original DL&W facilities; the roundhouse, for example, was reconstructed from remnants of a 1932 structure. The site also features several original outbuildings dated between 1899 and 1902. All the buildings on the site are listed with the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad Yard-Dickson Manufacturing Co. Site.
Feel the heat from the firebox, smell hot steam and oil; hear the whistle and the "chuff-chuff" from the smokestack, feel the ground vibrate, and watch as one-ton drive rods turn steel wheels. Discover how steam railroading helped shaped our nation's history and culture. Learn about the stories of the people who built, repaired and rode, and about the ongoing work to preserve railroading history.

The park is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. During severe weather events, the hours of operation may be impacted. For updated information, please check the alerts section at the top of this website. Please plan accordingly. The connecting walkway to the "Marketplace at Steamtown" is not the property of the National Park Service. The walkway is typically closed from November through April due to icy and other unpredictable weather conditions.
